Mahjong is more than just a game. It's an art form and a gateway to understanding Chinese culture through strategy and beauty. American Mahjong has evolved to learning what the winning hands are and how to reach those hands through skill, luck and good attention to detail.
Please join us to learn to play. You don't need to be a stitcher to join us!
Location: Poppypointe Shop/1747 Allied Street Suite J (this will not be via Zoom or online)
Class Information:
This class is meant to both introduce you to the game and enhance your skills. Please let us know if you have experience with Mahj when you register.
Light snacks and beverages will be available.
Class Policies:
- Space is limited
- Cancellation policy: if we fill your spot, we will offer store credit less a $50 administrative fee. If we cannot fill the spot, there is no refund - we will make every effort to have the space filled of course!
About Sara and RichMahj
Sara took a Mahj class and her love for the game grew from there. She loves to showcase the benefits of the game, which include attention to detail, understanding the tiles and making connections with other players. She has been teaching in and around central Virginia for several years.
Travel Information
Charlottesville is home to multiple historic homes, including Monticello, Montpelier and Highland. It is home to the University of Virginia, and if you have stitched any of the Blue Ridge Stitchery pieces, you will recognize both the Rotunda and the mountains that surround our lovely town.
We are also home to an historic pedestrian mall, multiple vineyards, cideries and breweries. There are many great restaurants in town, along with a thriving arts culture, including galleries, live theatre and music venues.
We are reachable via train on Amtrak or via multiple airlines to CHO (though air travel here can be spotty at best). Charlottesville is 90 minutes from the Richmond airport and 2 hours from Dulles.
We are located in Mcintire Plaza, which is a funky mixed use center housing restaurants, cafes, shopping, workout spaces as well as office and residential . There are 2 handicapped parking spots in front of the shop and there should be ample parking in front and to the side of the building.
